Fourth of July Fun

Thanks to the hard work and creative talent of our float committee, HD36 Democrats were able to participate in the 4th of July parade. Thomas Schulz and Myra Zelensky rode in the truck and more than a dozen walkers (plus three dogs) carried placards and passed out candy, which had been donated by members. Our float was a representation of the Guard Island lighthouse, designed and put together by Myra Zelensky (with wood contributed by her dad, Roland Stanton) and bearing the slogan, “Shining Light on Diversity: Hometown Proud.” We displayed world maps showing the nationalities and cultures that make Ketchikan so rich in diversity and signs representing many of the occupations that contribute to our vibrant community.
